VIDEO: A Robot Has Been Developed That Can Print Living Cells Directly Inside the Human Body

Researchers at the University of New South Wales in Australia have introduced a prototype device capable of printing living cells within internal organs and functioning as a versatile surgical endoscopic tool. This was reported by newsroom.unsw.edu.au.

Specifically, scientists have developed a small and flexible robotic arm that can penetrate the human body and use bio-ink derived from living cells as the printing material. It can operate based on pre-programmed procedures or be manually controlled in real-time.

The research team has already tested the device inside an artificial colon, where it successfully navigated through confined spaces before achieving successful 3D printing on the surface of the organ.

Experts are hopeful that with further development, possibly within five to seven years, the technology could be utilized by medical professionals to access difficult-to-reach areas inside the body through small skin incisions or natural openings.
