Two New Holidays Introduced in Romania

Two New Holidays Introduced in Romania

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis has approved amendments to the country’s Labor Code. The new law will introduce two new non-working days in Romania on January 6 (Epiphany) and January 7 (Feast of St. John the Baptist). This was announced by the presidential administration.

The Epiphany holiday, celebrated in Romania according to the Gregorian calendar, reflects the biblical episode of Jesus Christ’s ceremonial immersion in the waters of the Jordan River. The Feast of St. John the Baptist is the last in the series of winter holidays in the country.

Currently, Romanians have 15 public holidays per year, in addition to the upcoming new holidays. Additionally, several senators from the National Liberal Party recently introduced a bill in parliament granting working Romanians an extra day off on their birthdays.
