TikTok is a Threat to U.S. National Security, Says White House
The Biden administration believes that the TikTok social media platform poses a threat to the national security of the United States.
This was announced on Wednesday, March 1, during a press briefing by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. She explained that Washington is concerned that the operations of this social media network are linked to "data collection from Americans and potential risks to national security." Additionally, Jean-Pierre stated that the Biden administration has already urged Congress to respond to this threat. She assured that the Chinese social network is not used in the White House.
TikTok, an app for creating and viewing short videos, was launched in 2018. It is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance. According to the company’s CEO, more than 100 million Americans are users of the platform.
