1 Billion 100 Million Dram Allocated for the Construction of the 'Ajapnyak' Metro Station

The construction of infrastructure for the Yerevan metro will cost 1 billion 100 million dram. The government has approved the allocation of the necessary funds from the state budget for 2023 during today's session.

According to the same decision, the powers of the contracting authority for all necessary procurement processes have been transferred to the Yerevan municipality. This means that the purchase contracts and the agreements on the enforcement of the rights and obligations of the parties as stipulated in them will be signed by the Yerevan municipality.

According to the decision, the under-construction 'Ajapnyak' station must be fully equipped with all attributes, calculation intervals, and bidirectional regular traffic. The tunnels should be equipped with shelter options for the population in emergencies. Additionally, the unfinished civil defense facilities within them must be completed, for which necessary construction and installation work volumes have been planned in the design.

The government claims that the development of the existing metro towards Ajapnyak addresses significant transportation issues that are important for the neighborhood's social issues, as the local population primarily uses public transport. The construction of the station is also justified by the scarcity of routes connecting Ajapnyak with the city center, providing significant relief to urban transport thanks to the Kyiv and Davtashen bridges.

The government also reminds that there are excavated metro tunnels on the left bank of the Hrazdan River, which will significantly facilitate the construction of the station.

"The implementation of the development program towards Ajapnyak will allow for comfortable, fast, and environmentally friendly transportation, connecting the two parts of Yerevan divided by the Hrazdan River gorge, which is strategically very important," states the justification of the decision.

During the government meeting, Yerevan’s Deputy Mayor Tigran Avinyan announced that the construction of the new station will take 4 years.

"The total length of the station will be about 1.5 km. Currently, we are considering two options for the construction of the metro bridge: one with reinforced concrete support columns and the other with a model option of a metal truss bridge. At this moment, we do not have a final decision yet; we are waiting for financial assessments. But we are confident that it will be a remarkable and beautiful bridge," said Avinyan.

The deputy mayor stated that the station would be located on the sidewalk of the 'Tumo' center at the Halabyan-Abelian intersection. The construction will take place in an open area, with the excavation being done from above, which will noticeably reduce both the complexity and the financial cost of the construction.

According to the municipality's plans, the road leading to the new metro station, which is 525 meters long, is expected to pass through a tunnel, the construction of which began during the Soviet era and remains unfinished.
