VIDEO: I Have a Bitter Impression; We Have a Known Issue Related to Demographic Situation, Says Pashinyan

My impression, overall, regarding the discussion on developing a demographic strategy was bitter, because we have a well-known issue related to the demographic situation for a long time. This was stated by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a Q&A session with the government at the National Assembly today, March 1.

“But the good news is that the research findings say that if we implement the right policies, we can make tangible, visible changes in demographic dynamics. Essentially, the main approach is that the most important factor for improving the demographic situation is the formation of quality life infrastructure and environment.

The question even reached a political discussion, where the question was raised whether we have calculated what impact peace will have or what impact war has had or will have. In general, we continue to work on this; it has preparatory importance for developing a demographic strategy,” he said.

Pashinyan noted that there are two observations in this area: “In many cases, we see that the tools to influence birth rates sometimes unintentionally turn the birth of a child into a means for families to receive certain social benefits. But the strategic logic is that we turn childbirth into a product of family happiness, values, and trust, from which a bright future is expected.

From the perspective of demographics, the condition of active aging is of significant importance. Through certain legislative changes, we are trying to keep our citizens of retirement age in a maximally active state. But there is one condition: they must be healthy,” emphasized Pashinyan.
