VIDEO: What Could Happen If Azerbaijan Fails to Comply with the Hague Court's Demands
What is the significance of the Hague Court's decision and how will it contribute to the resolution of the Lachin corridor issue? In a video call with "First News", the representative of Armenia on international legal issues, Yeghishe Kirakosyan, clarified the following: "I believe the court's decision is of crucial importance because it is legally binding. The president of the court emphasized that the decision creates a legal obligation, which means that, in addition to the obligations undertaken within the framework of the trilateral agreement, Azerbaijan has another clear legal obligation established by the court's decision."
When asked what might follow if Azerbaijan does not comply with the court's demands, Kirakosyan replied: "I don't think that would be well received by the international community because we are already dealing with a different level, and Azerbaijan's failure to comply with that decision will lead to at least credibility issues for their country and additional complications. Naturally, the Armenian side must do everything to continuously remind the Azerbaijani side and the international community of their obligations. In any case, I don't think it would be in Azerbaijan's interests to not comply with that decision."
Speaking about the deadlines for implementing the court's decision, Kirakosyan stated: "At this point, we do not have specific deadlines, but the court's decision comes into force from the moment it is announced."
