Professional Boxer Murad Gassiev Obtains Armenian Citizenship
The Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia, Karen Giloyan, has welcomed WBA and IBF reigning heavyweight world champion Murad Gassiev. The meeting was also attended by Robert Petrosyan, the second coach of the Armenian national boxing team.
On March 3, a professional boxing evening will take place in Yerevan at the Karen Demirchyan Sports Complex, where Russian Murad Gassiev will compete against American boxer Mike Balogun in the main fight.
Professional boxer Murad Gassiev is the current champion of Asia according to the WBA Asia version and Eurasia according to the EBP version in the heavyweight category. Recently, the boxer received Armenian citizenship.
“I am hopeful that you will soon compete as a representative of Armenia and raise the Armenian flag in victory,” Karen Giloyan said addressing him. The Deputy Minister wished Murad Gassiev success and victory in the upcoming match and added that he will be following the boxer’s performance.
In turn, Gassiev confirmed the possibility of entering the ring under the Armenian flag in the future. He noted that he has come a long way in this sport and aims to fight for the world champion title.
It is noteworthy that during the professional boxing evening, Armenian boxers Samvel Apoyan and Ghukas Ghukasyan, as well as Arman Galstyan and Hayrik Nazaryan, will also participate in the bouts.
