Let Life Come and Show What Else Exists in the World: Shakira
World-renowned singer Shakira has spoken about the changes in her life following her split from Gerard Piqué. She discussed the song by Bizarrap dedicated to the former Barcelona player.
“That song has put me at the epicenter of controversy. At one time, I believed in the story that a woman needs a man to be complete. I also dreamed of having a family where the children would have a father and a mother living under the same roof. But not all dreams come true in life, although life finds a way to somehow compensate you. I think I have been compensated more than enough with two wonderful children, whom I fill with love every day. I realized that the stories stating that a woman needs a man are false,” she stated.
“I must confess that I have always had an emotional dependence on men. Now I think I have managed to look at it differently. Today I feel self-sufficient and believe that when a woman faces life's challenges, she becomes stronger because she recognizes her own weaknesses and accepts her vulnerability by expressing how she feels. I feel self-sufficient now, even though I used to think I would never come to realize that.”
“Someone should have fixed the day I was working with Bizarrap. I left the studio as a completely different person. This song allowed me to release steam, and it helped me to come back. If I hadn’t had the opportunity to express myself through songs, I think I would be completely different now.”
“In my songs, I have always felt obligated to use my voice and give it to those who cannot speak. I realized that women find themselves at a crucial moment in society, at a time when the support we can receive from each other is very important. And as former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright said, 'There is a special place in hell for women who do not support other women.'”
“I am ready for the next phase — let life come and show what else exists in the world,” the singer said in an interview with El Punto.
Shakira and Piqué split in the summer of 2022 due to the footballer’s infidelity.
