Dust Concentration Exceeds Permissible Limits

In Yerevan, nitrogen dioxide levels exceed permissible norms by 1.1 times in two cities of Armenia—Ararat and Hrazdan, where dust concentrations have surpassed permitted limits. According to the Statistical Committee's data, in December 2022, dust density in Ararat was 1.3 times above the allowable threshold, while Hrazdan exceeded the limit by 1.6 times.

Moreover, in Yerevan, the nitrogen dioxide concentration has surpassed the permissible limit by 1.1 times. Facebook user Zohrap Eganian has raised concerns about this issue, emphasizing that construction activities are becoming a serious threat. "The dust settled on vehicles in the morning is a serious warning that the construction boom, at this pace, poses a danger to public health. Entire blocks still have red sand dumped onto bare pavement, which has melted away, but the sand remains on the street. You can come to Avan to see firsthand how the municipality and construction sector disregard the comfort of citizens, or you can tour Avan for more examples," he stated.

He further apologized to conscientious builders but warned that if construction continues at this pace in Armenia, it will soon be associated with dirt, dust, and discomfort. "Construction machinery is lost in dust, concrete mixers leave behind remnants that harden and make entire streets impassable (come to Norq, Erebuni, etc.). Guys, the construction of such dense buildings on Komitas Avenue will lead to a disaster; there’s no space to move. Build parks, open schools and kindergartens, it’s not enough to just rely on construction permissions for development. Make the city livable, think about public transportation, it’s becoming impossible to live here. Leave space for life!" he added.

As a postscript, he noted that the asphalt in front of the Football Academy in Avan was dug up last year, allegedly repaired, and has since remained in disrepair, with sections forcing cars to maneuver into oncoming traffic. The municipality supposedly tells every caller that they will address it at the end of the month. He questioned whether the head of Avan’s municipality has ever visited this area and expressed surprise at the condition, or if they had required the paperwork for restoring it back to its old state.
