Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Cases Reported in Artsakh Due to Gas Supply Interruptions

In Artsakh, there has been an increase in a number of diseases and complications. This is reported by the Ministry of Health of Artsakh.

Specifically, ischemic heart disease has risen by 58%, the incidence of brain strokes has increased by 36%, and complications during childbirth have increased by 11.6%, along with many other diseases.

The Ministry attributes these figures to being blocked for 78 consecutive days, as well as the continuous stress caused by the uncertainties and threats stemming from recent Azerbaijani criminal actions.

“There is an increase in neurological and psychological problems among adults, specifically children, compared to the same period last year, which is reflected in a 46% rise in visits to neurologists and psychologists for children, and a 47% increase for adults,” noted the Ministry of Health of Artsakh.

Compared to the same period last year, surgical interventions due to intestinal obstruction have increased by 25%, which may be due to a lack of fiber in the diet.

Moreover, due to periodic complete interruptions in gas supply and inadequate restoration, 30 cases of carbon monoxide poisoning have been reported.

It should be noted that since December 12, 2022, a group of Azerbaijanis in civilian clothes has closed the section of the Stepanakert-Goris highway connecting Artsakh to Armenia under the guise of environmental concerns. Since December 13, the Azerbaijani side has been periodically shutting off gas supply to Artsakh.

Since January 9, energy supply from Armenia to Artsakh has also been disconnected from areas under Azerbaijani control.

The Azerbaijani side does not allow specialists to approach and understand the causes in order to carry out emergency restoration work if necessary. In Artsakh, electricity supply is being carried out with rolling blackouts. The Lachin Corridor remains closed.
