Putin's Gift Collection Becomes Biden's Most Expensive Gift in 2021
The U.S. Department of State has published a report on gifts received by officials.
According to the document, the most expensive gift for Joe Biden in 2021 was a collection of stationery items decorated with Khokhloma patterns from Russian President Vladimir Putin. The collection in question is the "Moscow" set, valued at $12,000.
The presidents of Russia and the U.S. exchanged gifts during their summit in Geneva on June 16, 2021. Joe Biden presented Vladimir Putin with a crystal buffalo figurine and aviator sunglasses.
Putin's gift has been transferred to the National Archives of the United States. The document notes that if the U.S. president did not accept the gift, it could put the donor and the government in an uncomfortable position.
Similar wording is included in the comments on all other gifts. The second most expensive gift at the time was a silk carpet from then-Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, valued at $9,600.
