Police Officers Beat a Young Man Attending a Wedding in Gyumri: What is Known

Today, an incident involving police officers occurred on Garegin Nzhdeh Street in central Gyumri. Local human rights activist Karapet Poghosyan published photos from the scene, showing a gathering crowd. He captioned the photo: “Police officers have once again misbehaved in Gyumri. They beat a young man and then faced public outrage... What can I say, perhaps they deserve each other.”

Speaking with Aravot.am, Poghosyan reported that the police stopped a driver coming from a nearby village who was attending a wedding, claiming he had committed a violation. The driver demanded proof of the alleged violation, insisting that he had not made any infractions. After an exchange of words, the police called for additional colleagues to the scene, and as the situation escalated into a scuffle, bystanders noticed the driver being pushed and pulled, leading them to intervene and prevent the incident.
