EU Leaders Promise to 'Not Rest' Until Ukraine Defeats Russia

The leaders of the European Union have pledged to "not rest" until Ukraine wins its conflict against Russia and restores its territorial integrity. This is stated in a declaration issued by the member states of the European Council, according to Armenpress.

The leaders of the 27 EU countries emphasized that they will continue to support Kyiv with the supply of weapons and military ammunition, and will constantly increase pressure on Russia.

"The European Union will continue to provide Ukraine with political, economic, humanitarian, financial, and military assistance, including through rapid coordinated purchases from the European defense industry. We will also assist in the recovery of Ukraine, for which we will seek to utilize frozen and blocked Russian assets in accordance with European and international law," the declaration states.

“With our international partners, we will do everything to ensure Ukraine's victory, uphold international norms, restore peace and Ukraine's territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, so that Ukraine can be reconstructed and justice served. Until that day, we will not rest,” the EU leaders' declaration notes.

Meanwhile, TASS news agency reminds that earlier, European Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen had explicitly acknowledged that there are no provisions in either European or, even more so, international law that foresee the possibility of confiscating a foreign state’s sovereign assets. However, both European officials added that the EU is exploring legal avenues for seizing Russian assets that it has managed to freeze and identify.

EU ambassadors have been attempting to agree on the 10th package of sanctions against Russia for the fifth consecutive day. According to sources, they have “practically reached an agreement, but several details remain.” Earlier, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen promised that the 10th package of sanctions against Russia would come into effect on February 24.
