China Presents 12 Points for Resolving the Ukrainian Crisis

The cessation of military operations requires abandoning the Cold War mentality and respecting the security interests of other countries. Such provisions are mentioned in a document outlining China’s position on the political resolution of the situation in Ukraine.

Today, the Chinese Foreign Ministry published a statement on its website regarding the Chinese government's stance on the Ukrainian crisis. The document contains 12 points.

"Abandon the Cold War mentality. A country's security cannot be achieved at the expense of others' security," the document states.

China also emphasizes that regional security cannot be achieved through the expansion or strengthening of military blocs. The legitimate security interests of other countries cannot be ignored, as stated in the first paragraph of the statement.

The document notes that it is currently necessary to "promote the construction of a balanced, effective, and stable architecture for European security, oppose achieving one's own security by depriving other countries of security, and prevent the creation of confrontational camps."

"Dialogue and negotiations are the only possible way to resolve the Ukrainian crisis," the Chinese Foreign Ministry emphasized. It noted that "the international community must (...) create conditions and platforms for the resumption of negotiations," and China is ready to continue playing a constructive role in this regard.

The statement underscores the importance of abandoning unilateral sanctions and pressure practices, which "not only do not solve the problem but also create new ones." China also called on Moscow and Kyiv to restore dialogue as soon as possible.

According to its official position, "there are no winners in wars and conflicts," therefore, all parties involved in the situation must maintain restraint, rationality, avoid escalating contradictions, and refrain from organizing provocations.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry notes that "the use of nuclear weapons or the threat of their use must be resisted, (...) in any case, counter any country's development and use of biological and chemical weapons."

In this regard, the statement mentions the necessity of ensuring the safety of nuclear power plants and resisting armed attacks on peaceful nuclear facilities to avoid technological nuclear accidents.

China considers the further escalation of the Ukrainian crisis to be "unacceptable." According to the document, support should be given to Russia and Ukraine for them to resume direct dialogue as soon as possible.

The document also highlights the importance of refraining from attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, respecting the fundamental rights of prisoners of war, and supporting the existing global economic system.
