VIDEO. This is an extremely important decision: Pashinyan on the international court's ruling

The government of Armenia, led by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, held its regular meeting today, February 23. The agenda includes 30 questions, 25 of which were not reported. Pashinyan addressed the approval of Armenia's request for interim measures against Azerbaijan by the International Court of Justice of the United Nations yesterday.

"The court confirmed that the Lachin corridor has been closed since December 12, 2022. This may seem like a strange assertion to our public in the sense that the closure of the corridor is evident for all of us. However, Azerbaijan has insisted in all international forums that the Lachin corridor is not closed," Pashinyan stated during the government session.

The second important aspect is that the court recognized the responsibility of the Azerbaijani state for the closure of the Lachin corridor, essentially not considering the closure due to 'eco-activists' as significant. "The international court clearly recorded the existence of the Artsakh unit, according to the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020," he added.

Moreover, according to Pashinyan, the court reaffirmed Armenia's position that the Lachin corridor should not be under the control of Azerbaijan, as mandated by the trilateral statement of November 9, 2020. Additionally, Azerbaijan is obligated by the same document to ensure safe passage through the Lachin corridor in both directions, and it should be under the control of the Russian peacekeeping forces.
