Moldova Prepares to Withdraw from the CIS: Reasons Revealed
Moldova is preparing to withdraw from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), announced the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu.
“Moldova has declared that by joining the EU, all foreign policy objectives and participation in international organizations will be subordinated to the goal of European integration. It is clear that the exit from CIS agreements that are incompatible with our objectives will continue,” he stated.
He noted that many of the 330 agreements the republic has signed during its years of independence “do not work or are not applied to the benefit of Moldova.”
Moldova is committed to the path of European integration, and its international policy will be subordinated to this aim, which means a gradual exit from the CIS, the minister reported.
