Government Compensates Housing Costs for Artsakh Residents Remaining in Armenia

In response to the necessity of providing housing for around 340 citizens from Artsakh currently in Armenia due to the blockade of the Lachin Corridor, the government has adopted a decision during today’s meeting.

According to the justification provided, since December 12, 2022, a number of citizens from Artsakh have turned to the operational headquarters of Artsakh in Armenia and the offices of the Unified Social Services of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of Armenia regarding the issue of lacking accommodation as a result of the closure of the Lachin Corridor.

In order to reimburse the housing and relocation costs of the Artsakh residents remaining in Armenia due to the blockade of the Lachin Corridor, the Armenian government has made the third allocation from the state budget today amounting to 97,460,500 dram. Of this amount, 89,134,500 dram will be provided to the Syunik Regional Administration to cover hotel and transportation costs in the region, while 8,326,000 will be allocated to the Yerevan City Hall.

It is noteworthy that the first decision to compensate the housing costs for the Artsakh residents deprived of returning home was adopted on January 12, 2023, allocating 114,850,900 dram. The second decision was made on January 26, providing 98,490,500 dram. The previous two decisions covered expenses incurred up to and including January 25.

The new allocation aims to reimburse hotel and transportation costs incurred from January 26 to February 19, inclusive. It should be noted that the Lachin Corridor remains closed.
