Aliyev Will Be Discredited Under International Pressure: EP MP
The closure of the Lachin corridor by Azerbaijan is the first step towards ethnic cleansing. This was stated today, February 23, during a meeting with journalists by European Parliament member François Alfoncin.
“Ecology seems to have become a tool, as the Azerbaijanis are trying to find an excuse under the guise of environmentalists to block the road. Meanwhile, those who participate in this process are agents. This concerns attempts at cultural cleansing and the eradication of Armenian civilization. We document that Armenians live under constant threat of attacks. We want to show our solidarity with the representatives of the Armenian nation living in Armenia and Artsakh, and we want to influence public opinion,” the MP said.
According to the parliamentarian, the blockade should not become a reason for the ethnic cleansing of the people of Artsakh. To combat this, it is necessary to focus international attention and unite European diplomacy, which France is working towards.
“Every week, demands for the opening of the Lachin corridor are increasing, and the Azerbaijani narratives are losing credibility. To avoid this humanitarian disaster, the application of sanctions will be necessary, which we may demand. I believe that Aliyev will lose his entire rating and be discredited under international pressure. And all countries that pay attention to Azerbaijan, especially for economic interests, will understand that the economy cannot be more important than cooperation with a criminal government,” Alfoncin emphasized.
