VIDEO: Israeli Diplomats Expelled from African Union Summit
The Israeli delegation has been expelled from the opening ceremony of the African Union summit in Ethiopia. This was reported by Vzglyad.
“It is unfortunate to see the African Union held hostage by a small number of extremist countries, such as Algeria and South Africa, which are driven by hatred and controlled by Iran,” commented the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Moussa Faki, the chairperson of the regional association's commission, stated that the Israeli diplomats who were escorted out by security forces were not invited to the event. According to him, the decision to grant Israel observer status has been suspended pending a discussion by a specially created committee.
According to the Times of Israel, Pretoria and Algiers had previously opposed the decision of the Chair of the AU Commission to restore Israel's observer status.
