Judge's Agreement on David Tonoyan's Case Breached Again, Lawyer Says
The agreement for court sessions to be held every Tuesday regarding the criminal case of David Tonoyan has once again been breached by the judge due to participation in training courses. Instead of scheduling a court hearing for February 21, 2023, the session has been set for February 28, 2023. This was stated by David Tonoyan's defense attorney Sergey Hovhannisyan in an interview with NEWS.am.
"It turns out that David Tonoyan and other individuals in detention related to the same case must continue to remain in custody due to the judge's training, which in no way complies with the provisions established by the European Convention on Human Rights," he said.
The lawyer recalled that David Tonoyan had previously made a statement regarding the slow progress of the court hearings, noting: "I assess all this as an intention to keep me in custody for as long as possible, and an unsuccessful attempt to prevent the complete collapse of this fabricated criminal case."
It is noteworthy that David Tonoyan is being charged in connection with abuses in the supply of military equipment. Other defendants in the criminal case include the Chief of the General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces, Artak Davtyan, former Deputy Chief Stepan Galstyan, and David Galstyan, known as 'Patron Davo,' a businessman involved in arms supply. It should be noted that David Tonoyan has been in custody since September 30 of last year, as per the court's decision.
