Turkey Continues to Shudder

New underground tremors have been recorded in Turkey. In the northern part of the country, two tremors with a magnitude of 3.6 occurred in the city of Çorum at a depth of 5 kilometers. Local residents, feeling the quakes, fled into the streets, fearing building collapses.

According to Turkish seismologist Süleyman Pamuklu, more devastating earthquakes may occur in Ankara and Istanbul in the near future. He also noted that Istanbul has a very weak building foundation. The quality of the concrete used in the buildings is very low, and corrosion has also occurred. This means that during tremors, about 50,000 buildings could collapse, the professor predicts.

Earlier, on February 18, it was reported that a new earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 struck Turkey. The underground tremors were recorded at 22:31. The epicenter of the earthquake was located 54 kilometers from the city of Kahramanmaraş, which has a population of about 376,000.
