Lachin Corridor Blocked for 70 Days: Pashinyan at Panel Discussion in Munich
A panel discussion has begun in Munich featuring Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, and OSCE Minsk Group Co-chair Helga Maria Schmid.
Pashinyan stated during the discussion that the weakening of international attention towards the South Caucasus poses risks. He emphasized, “While the international community's focus is understandably on Ukraine, new risks may emerge for the South Caucasus.”
According to Pashinyan, Armenia is committed to democratic reforms and reinforcing the rule of law in the country. He also addressed the issue of the blockade of the Lachin corridor, stating, “The corridor has been blocked for 70 days, resulting in a humanitarian and energy crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh, with gas supply interrupted 10 times over the past 70 days.”
“The trilateral statement of November 9, 2020, explicitly mentioned the Lachin corridor. It is the responsibility of Azerbaijan and Russian peacekeepers to ensure the operation of the Lachin corridor. However, the reality is quite different now,” he added.
