Emergency Declared in New Zealand
The government of New Zealand has declared a "state of emergency" following Cyclone Gabrielle. The cyclone has caused flooding and landslides across the country. Approximately 225,000 people have been left without electricity. The cyclone has generated winds with speeds up to 140 km/h.
Five people have been reported dead, and more than 3,500 are considered missing. This is only the third time in New Zealand's history that a state of emergency has been declared.
