Bayramov and Blinken's Assistant Have Had a Phone Conversation
A phone conversation has taken place between Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov and U.S. Secretary of State's Assistant for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried, as reported by the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The interlocutors discussed the prevailing situation in the region and the prospects for negotiations regarding a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
According to Azerbaijani media, Jeyhun Bayramov noted that in accordance with the trilateral statement, Azerbaijan guarantees the safety of citizens, vehicles, and cargo along the Lachin corridor. However, he claimed that “the Armenian side is abusing the Lachin corridor, using it for illegal economic activities, the rotation of Armenian military personnel, and the transportation of mines.”
Additionally, Bayramov pointed out that the legitimate demands of protesters along the Lachin corridor have not yet been met, and claims regarding a tense humanitarian situation in the region “lack any basis.”
During the phone call, the parties also exchanged views on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest, according to the statement from the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
