VIDEO: Massive Protests in Israel as People Push Back Against Netanyahu's Reforms
In Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, tens of thousands of people have taken to the streets to protest the judicial system reforms proposed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government. The bill is set for its first reading in the Knesset tomorrow.
According to RIA Novosti, there are also mass strikes happening across the country, with media reports suggesting that up to one million people are participating.
The large-scale protests began early on February 13. The first part of the judicial reform, proposed by Justice Minister Yariv Levin at the beginning of January, will allow the government to control the judicial selection committee and will also limit the Supreme Court's oversight over basic laws.
