Metropolitan Museum of Art Changes Nationality of Aivazovsky and Repin
The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York has updated the nationality details of artists Ivan Aivazovsky and Ilya Repin on its website. Now, their nationality is listed as "Ukrainian." According to TASS, on February 11, the profiles previously indicated "Russian" nationality.
The biography card of Ilya Repin states that he was born in Chuguyev, Ukraine, "when it was part of the Russian Empire." Despite the "Ukrainian" nationality, Ivan Aivazovsky's profile shows that he is identified as a "Russian romantic painter." On February 10, the Metropolitan Museum's website changed the nationality of Arkhip Kuindzhi from "Russian" to "Ukrainian." Additionally, in the artist's personal details, it was stated that he was born in Mariupol, "when this Ukrainian city was part of the Russian Empire." Furthermore, the title of Edgar Degas's painting "Russian Dancer" has been changed to "Ukrainian Dancer in Costume."
