Contractor of Many Collapsed Buildings Tried to Flee Turkey with Wife
In Adıyaman, Turkey, Yavuz Karakuş, the contractor for many of the collapsed buildings, was apprehended at Istanbul Airport while attempting to flee to Georgia with his wife, Sevilay Karakuş. The couple tried to leave Turkey with $16,000, equivalent to 20,000 Turkish Lira. This information has been reported by Turkish media.
Additionally, according to Associated Press, Turkish authorities have issued arrest warrants for 131 employees of construction companies deemed responsible for the collapse of buildings following a powerful earthquake.
“The Turkish Ministry of Justice has emphasized that justice will reach all those guilty of the building collapses. It has been noted that prosecutors have already begun collecting samples from the materials used in the construction of several of the collapsed buildings,” AP reports.
