Baku Residents in Panic: What Voskanyan Says

Journalist Voskanyan writes on his Facebook page:

“Scared by the strong earthquake in Turkey, Baku residents are buying or renting private houses and land parcels. Following the powerful earthquake in Turkey, there has been a sharp increase in the prices of houses for sale or rent, as well as residential construction land in Baku. These properties are mainly being sought by residents of high-rise buildings who fear that a strong earthquake could also hit Baku.

The market price for one square meter of land designated for construction in Baku has risen to the equivalent of 500 manats, which is about $295. Azerbaijani experts state that the high-rise buildings in the city are sturdier than older buildings with fewer floors. However, in the event of a strong earthquake, there is no guarantee that high-rise buildings will withstand the natural disaster.”
