Azerbaijan Responds to Armenian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson

“Armenia is abusing the UN's human rights mechanisms and is engaging in false propaganda.” This was stated by Ayhan Hacizade, the head of the press service of Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commenting on the statement made by the spokesperson of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, Vahan Hunanian, regarding Azerbaijan's disregard for the letter from UN rapporteurs.

As expected, official Baku not only rejected the substantiated criticisms directed at them but also issued counter-accusations. The representative of Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry claimed that Azerbaijan has always taken its international obligations seriously and is committed to the obligations arising from international conventions and international humanitarian law.

It is noteworthy that a letter addressed to Azerbaijan was recently published by the UN rapporteurs, demanding explanations from the Azerbaijani government regarding the war crimes committed by its armed forces during the military aggression unleashed against Armenia on September 13, 2022. The letter also addresses the issue of not releasing prisoners of war following the cessation of hostilities in November 2020.
