Chechnya's Parliament Grants New Title to Kadyrov
Chechnya's Parliament has unanimously approved amendments to the republican constitution, which, among other things, establishes the title of the region's leader in Chechen as "Mehk-Da." The Chechen Parliament has awarded Ramzan Kadyrov the title of "Father of the People."
Ramzan Kadyrov has been the leader of Chechnya since 2007. Human rights advocates have repeatedly accused him of human rights violations, as well as of abducting and killing his critics. Sanctions have been imposed on the Chechen leader by the EU, the USA, and several other countries.
