VIDEO: 'You have killed someone who wasn't dead' - Turkey cuts off voices of dissenting citizens
In Turkey, there has been significant backlash against Haberturk and NTV television networks for cutting off the voices of earthquake victims during live broadcasts when they started to complain. For example, a journalist from Haberturk was interviewing a victim on site when the person began to speak about being abandoned and receiving no help. The broadcast was abruptly cut off.
In another instance, an NTV reporter was giving a live report, but victims nearby expressed their frustrations about being left to fend for themselves; at that moment, the operator quickly disconnected the live feed.
It is worth mentioning that according to the Turkish website 'Artı Gerçek', search and rescue operations in the Şekerdere district of Kahramanmaraş had not yet started as of last night. Families, whose relatives are still trapped under the rubble, are blocking the paths of search and rescue vehicles, stating, 'You have killed someone who wasn't dead.'
