Video: Sea of Marmara Pulls Back 25 Meters Near Istanbul, Residents Fear Possible Earthquake

The Sea of Marmara near the Avcılar district in western Istanbul has receded approximately 15 meters from the shore, according to Haber 7. In the areas of Altınova and Tekirdağ, the sea has retreated up to 25 meters from the coastline. The retreating waters have exposed rocks known as the "Royal Road." This phenomenon has caused panic among locals, with some speculating that a new earthquake might occur. However, the Candilli Observatory reported that the phenomenon is not related to recent earthquakes but is attributed to a drop in pressure.

Namık Kemal, a lecturer at Tekirdağ University, and Associate Professor Emre Özşahin noted that the Sea of Marmara recedes from the shore every year. They emphasized that "there is nothing to be afraid of."
