Sending UN Peacekeepers to Nagorno-Karabakh is Not Realistic, Says Russia's Foreign Ministry
The idea of sending UN peacekeepers to Nagorno-Karabakh is unlikely to be realistic. This was stated by Pyotr Ilyichev, the director of the Department of International Organizations of the Russian Foreign Ministry, in an interview with RIA Novosti.
“The issues of restoring peace are effectively addressed by Russian peacekeepers,” he said. He also noted that UN peacekeeping missions do not always enjoy the confidence of the host countries. The issue is not so much who authorized the peacekeeping operation, but rather the existence of good will from both sides of the conflict to cease hostilities and address the consequences.
