VIDEO: "I continue to assert that serving the state interests of Armenia is my priority" - Gurgen Arsenyants
Gurgen Arsenyants, speaking with journalists in the National Assembly, said he wants to understand which statements from the factions of the Artsakh Parliament they are responding to, adding that they did not specify when they would clarify their stance. He noted, "I am a deputy of the National Assembly of Armenia, elected as part of a political team whose primary concern is serving the state interests of Armenia."
Yesterday, all factions of the Artsakh National Assembly issued a joint statement, considering Gurgen Arsenyants' statements as dangerous and called for the issue to be discussed in the ethics commission. This refers to his statement where Arsenyants mentioned that while there are discussions about the 120,000 Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh, there are also 3 million Armenians in Armenia.
When asked if he is ready to repeat his statement that the safety of the three million Armenians should not be jeopardized for the sake of 120,000 residents of Artsakh, Arsenyants responded: "Armenia has a population of 3 million, and I continue to assert that serving the state interests of Armenia is my priority. The 120,000 people of Artsakh who are under blockade fall within the spectrum of serving the state interests of Armenia. We have the opportunity to clarify what each expression is directed towards. The media and propaganda noise in Armenia and Artsakh, which is aimed against the authorities of Armenia, will somehow diminish in intensity over time. There is a strange informational attack happening against the authorities of Armenia."
Additionally, Arsenyants emphasized that Armenia is the state for its citizens who live in Armenia, pay taxes in Armenia, and serve in the Armenian army. He stated, "Who said that protecting the rights of the people of Artsakh does not fall within serving the state interests of Armenia? It is a matter of perception," he noted.
