More People are Divorcing than Marrying: Demographic Situation in Armenia by the Numbers
The National Statistical Committee of Armenia has summarized the demographic indicators for 2022. The birth rates in the country continue to decline. At the same time, there has been a significant decrease in the number of deaths. The number of marriages has also decreased, whereas the number of divorces has increased.
In 2022, 36,623 children were born in Armenia, which is 270 less than the figure for 2021. Thus, last year's final data were comparable to those of 2020.
There has been a significant decrease in the number of deaths in the republic. During the reporting period, 26,805 citizens passed away, which is 7,833 fewer than in 2021.
It is noted that the most common cause of death in Armenia is blood diseases. The second place is occupied by neoplasms, and respiratory and digestive system diseases rank third and fourth, respectively. The top five is rounded out by infectious and parasitic diseases.
At the same time, during the reporting period, there have been more divorces and fewer marriages. Throughout 2022, a total of 16,795 marriages were registered in the country, which is 370 higher than the figure for 2021. Furthermore, in 2022, there were 4,525 divorces registered, which is 91 more than the figures of 2021.
