Video: Aleppo's Historical Center Damaged by Earthquake in Syria

The Old City has been the hardest hit area in Syria, particularly the historical center of Aleppo. Many ancient mosques have been destroyed. Currently, rescuers are working on-site, as numerous people remain trapped under the debris, reports RIA Novosti.

Aleppo's citadel is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. It has also been reported that in addition to the citadel, the medieval fortified Great Palace located in the center of the Old City has been damaged. The citadel is considered one of the oldest and largest fortresses in the world, dating back to at least the mid-3rd millennium BC.
