Representatives of Turkey, Syria, and Russia to Meet This Month: Turkish Defense Minister

Turkey's Defense Minister Hulusi Akar has stated that a meeting of representatives from Turkey, Syria, and Russia will take place in February as part of trilateral negotiations, according to Коммерсант. However, he did not specify the exact date and location of the talks.

"During the trilateral meeting in the format of Syria-Russia-Turkey in February, the technical delegations from the ministries of defense and intelligence will convene. The dialogue will continue," Akar said in an interview with the Turkish newspaper Sozcu.

On December 27, talks were held in Moscow among the heads of the defense ministries of Turkey, Syria, and Russia. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the heads of the departments discussed the situation in Syria, as well as the fight against extremists in the country. Syria has rated the outcomes of the meeting positively.

On January 29, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan admitted that Iran might join the negotiations in the next meeting of delegations. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has expressed support for including Iran in the discussions.
