What Violation Did Hakobkoyan's Son Commit? Federation President Clarifies

Former boxing world champion Israel Hakobkoyan's son, Harutun Hakobkoyan, has been disqualified by the European Boxing Federation.

“By violating the statutes of the international federation, they are traveling to various competition venues—Mexico, Finland, Latvia, Poland—under the names of other federations and wish to participate in legitimate competitions,” clarified Hovhannes Hovsepyan, the president of the Armenian Boxing Federation, during a conversation with reporters, noting that they have already received 4-5 letters from the international organization requesting an explanation.

According to him, Hakobkoyan's son is not alone in this situation; several other athletes have also taken similar actions but later realized their mistake and apologized, whereas Harutun Hakobkoyan has no intention of doing so.

It should be noted that during the start of the Armenian Championship, former champion Israel Hakobkoyan was the first to step onto the competition platform, stating that he was holding a protest in support of his son, who has been allowed to participate in the Armenian Championship.

“In their opinion, they should allow my son to compete under the Armenian flag, but their opinion matters very little,” declared senior Hakobkoyan.

However, as Hovhannes Harutyunyan later clarified, the former champion’s son has been disqualified by the European Boxing Federation.
