Video: 15 New Trolleybuses to Operate in Yerevan Soon

For the first time in seven decades, the bus depot of the "Yerevan Electric Transport" company will be replenished with new trolleybuses. Fifteen new and modern vehicles purchased with community funds will soon be operating in the capital, according to the Yerevan Municipality.

According to the source, Yerevan serves five trolleybus routes, with an average of 40 units of rolling stock running daily. Despite their dilapidated condition, trolleybuses remain a preferred mode of transportation for many citizens, with 10,000 passengers using the service every day.

“We have had 27 routes, and currently 5 are operational. The new trolleybuses will have the capability to operate an additional 70 km without overhead wires, which will allow us to service new streets,” stated Sarkis Bejanian, Director of "Yerevan Electric Transport".

“Of course, I believe that the number of trolleybuses that are arriving will be increased, so that there will be more rolling stock in Yerevan than we have been using until now. The trolleybus is considered an environmentally friendly transport mode, working entirely on electric energy, and I believe it is also strategically important since electricity is produced within the Republic of Armenia, making us independent of other countries. The future belongs to electric transport, and we must make changes,” emphasized the Mayor.
