The Design and Regulations of Places for Holding Arrested and Detained Individuals Will Comply with International Standards

The draft law on "Amendments to the Law on Places for Holding Arrested and Detained Individuals" was discussed at the session of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Defense and Security.

The Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Arpine Sargsyan, stated that this draft proposes to establish the characteristics of the buildings and equipment for holding arrested individuals at the level of a Government decision, directly related to the guarantee of the rights of those arrested and the fulfillment of the state's positive obligations.

Meanwhile, the Vice-Chairman of the committee, Armen Khachatryan, noted: "With the changes made to the law through this draft, the Government is granted the right to define the design and regulations of the places for holding arrested and detained individuals by its decision to ensure compliance with international standards."

It should be noted that the committee has given a positive conclusion to the draft.
