50 Armenian Trucks Waiting at Lars, Customs Attaché Reports
Around 50 Armenian trucks are waiting to travel from Georgia to Russia and vice versa through the Upper Lars checkpoint. This was stated by Vahan Hakobyan, the customs attaché of the Armenian Embassy in Russia, in an interview with Sputnik Armenia.
It was previously reported that the road from Russia to Georgia via Upper Lars was closed to trucks for one night. After customs operations, traffic was restored.
The customs attaché clarified that in such situations, there would not be several kilometers of queues, and the trucks would cross the border in a few hours.
It is worth mentioning that Georgia is carrying out construction of a bypass road around the landslide-prone section of the Mtskheta-Stepantsminda-Lars highway (Gudauri-Kobi). This involves a 9-kilometer tunnel under the Khaishi Pass.
The planned construction will cover a road length of 22.7 kilometers, along with six bridges and five tunnels. The construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
