New Arrest Expected in Barracks Fire Case: "Joxovurd"

According to information from the "Joxovurd" newspaper, a second individual is set to be arrested in connection with the fire that occurred on January 19 in the barracks allocated for the engineering-sapper platoon of the military unit stationed in the village of Azat, Gegharkunik region.

Who is this person? According to the data we have received, the official being arrested is one of the individuals responsible for the rear of the military unit.

It is noteworthy that on January 25, 2023, a decision was made to initiate public criminal proceedings against the deputy head of the rear and communal services of the military unit, G.A., under part 3 of Article 550 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia (military official negligence resulting in death), as a result of which G.A. was arrested on January 26.

To recall, on January 19, 2023, around 01:30, a fire broke out in the barracks intended for the personnel of the engineering-sapper platoon of the military unit stationed in Azat village, Gegharkunik region, resulting in the deaths of 15 servicemen from the same platoon and several others sustaining varying degrees of bodily injuries, leading to the initiation of a criminal proceeding.
