Armenia's Ranking in the Corruption Perceptions Index Revealed

The international anti-corruption center "Transparency International" has published the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) report for 2022. It turns out that Armenia had 49 points in this index in 2020 and 2021, and now it has dropped to 46 points. According to the methodology, a corruption perception index below 50 is considered a serious issue for a country.

Varuzhan Hoktanyan, the program director of the anti-corruption center "Transparency International," presented the analysis of the 2022 corruption perceptions index results at the Media Center on January 31. Hoktanyan noted, "After years of progress, this year's (2022) CPI results are concerning, as Armenia has regressed by 3 points. Although statistically this may not seem significant, this decline reflects issues related to maintaining checks and balances, law enforcement ethics, the independence of the judiciary, and the protection of civil space."

In the region, Armenia has more positive results in the corruption perception index compared to Azerbaijan, Turkey, or Iran. At the same time, Georgia's index is higher than Armenia's. "After Oman, Azerbaijan has had the most significant decline in this regard, dropping by 7 points to its historical minimum. Armenia had a stagnation period for many years, and although there was growth from 2018 to 2020, the current situation is very concerning," Hoktanyan emphasized, highlighting the risk of continued deterioration in the coming years.

According to the CPI data, the best scores in the world are held by Denmark, Finland, and New Zealand, while the worst are given to Somalia, Syria, and South Sudan.
