Armenian Ministry of Education Discusses Draft Code of Conduct for School Teachers and Council Members
The Armenian Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports has submitted a draft code of conduct for the members of the collegial governance body of general education institutions for public discussion.
The document regulates the requirements for the behavior of pedagogical staff at schools, as well as the relationships with students and parents who have a stake in the sector, within the framework of ethical norms. The draft represents a specific code of conduct that regulates the activities of participants in the educational process in the field of general education, outlining the area of relationships that is not governed by legal norms.
The foundation for the creation of this document is based on effectively realizing the objectives of general education, integrating the teaching and upbringing processes with the implementation of ethical standards.
While carrying out their functions, the activities of council members and pedagogical staff must align with the state's principles of prioritizing the formation of children as full-fledged citizens of society. The enhancement of the role of education is a guarantee for the development and stabilization of the individual as a supreme value in society. This will become realistic if: 1) individuals recognize its necessity, 2) the roles and authority of schools and teachers are elevated, 3) an individual’s upbringing stems from social moral characteristics, 4) the absorption of codes of conduct is established as a basis for the process of socialization within the given community’s social experience, 5) individuals understand their social roles, and 6) education is emphasized as a crucial condition for regulation of social relationships, alongside the mandatory mastering of ethical standards.
The informational sphere provides ample opportunities for acquiring and applying various educational materials regarding codes of conduct. However, to achieve desired and similar outcomes and ensure a unified orientation, it is essential for pedagogical staff and council members participating in the organizational process to have established codes of conduct. To monitor the activities and behavior of pedagogical staff, and to enhance their capabilities, it is necessary to properly inform them about the provisions of this document.
