Drivers Entering Congested Intersections Will Be Fined Even if There Is a 'Waffle' Marking
In any intersection, regardless of whether there is a marking known as 'waffle', it is prohibited to enter if a traffic jam has occurred, which would cause the driver to stop within the intersection area. This was stated today, January 30, at a press conference by Arusyak Khachatryan, a senior specialist in the Road Policy Division of the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of Armenia.
“This is the most common violation in Yerevan, which leads to artificial traffic jams during peak hours. A driver enters the intersection, stops, and blocks the oncoming traffic. In other words, the green light is on for oncoming traffic, but they cannot enter the intersection. After this, if the driver enters the intersection at such a time, they will be fined,” she said. The specialist noted that this change has already come into effect.
