Azerbaijan Embassy Evacuates Staff As Attacker Claims Wife Went Missing

Staff members of the Azerbaijan embassy in Iran will be evacuated, according to reports by APA, citing the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs press service of Azerbaijan. It has been noted that embassy personnel will be sent back to Azerbaijan.

Earlier, news about an armed attack on the Azerbaijan embassy in Tehran had emerged. Iranian media reports that the police have arrested the perpetrator of the armed assault on the embassy. According to IRNA, initial investigations revealed that the man's motives were personal.

The prosecutor of Tehran's criminal court stated that during the preliminary investigation, the man claimed that his wife had gone to the Azerbaijan embassy in Tehran last April and had not returned. He also mentioned that he received no response to multiple visits to the embassy, leading him to believe that his wife was hiding from him. The prosecutor then quoted the attacker’s words: “This morning, I decided to go to the embassy with a gun.”
