You Cannot Erase Us: Article by World-Famous Cher and Producer Eric Esrailian
World-renowned singer Cher and prominent Armenian-American physician, producer of the Hollywood film about the Armenian Genocide titled "The Promise," Eric Esrailian, have published an article in the American magazine "Newsweek," drawing attention to the humanitarian crisis that has arisen in Artsakh due to Azerbaijan's blockade of the Lachin corridor.
According to Armenpress, the article titled "You Cannot Erase Us" states that as a result of Azerbaijani actions, the lives of 120,000 people in Artsakh are currently at risk, and the world must pay attention to the created situation and save lives.
"The blockade of the only route connecting Artsakh to Armenia has deprived the population of essential supplies for food and life. This policy of ethnic cleansing, along with insidious attempts to erase culture, is simply barbaric," they write.
They also refer to Azerbaijan's attack on Artsakh in 2020, which was openly supported by Turkey, bringing foreign mercenaries to the battlefield.
"Prisoners of war have been subjected to violence or killed. Religious sites have been desecrated and systematically destroyed, while Azerbaijan's kleptocratic leadership has encouraged and welcomed these acts of violence. Indoctrination and hatred against Armenians are propagated through state-sponsored media and social networks, with even children officially being taught these narratives in Azerbaijan," the authors note, underscoring that under the conditions of international impunity, Azerbaijan will continue such actions and deepen its encroachment into Armenia's sovereign territory.
They draw attention to the violations of human rights and freedoms in Azerbaijan. "Artsakh and Armenia, the region's unique democracies, cannot be sacrificed for anyone's political expediency," Cher and Esrailian assert. They believe that as influential figures in the world, they must leverage their capacities and opportunities to tell this story at the highest levels.
"Think long and hard before turning a blind eye to the facts, aiming to financially support attractive dictators while ignoring others. We will continue to share our stories to help our brothers and sisters in our homeland and provide support to protect sanctuaries. In turn, we ask our political leaders in the United States and all those around the world who value justice and dignity, to boycott and impose sanctions against these murderous regimes, to halt the ongoing flow of money to them, and to apply more consistent criteria when it comes to human rights," Cher and Eric Esrailian concluded.
