The Number of Vehicles in Armenia Increased Sharply, While the Number of Accidents Decreased: Details from the Government Meeting

In 2022, the number of road traffic accidents in Armenia significantly decreased. This was stated today by Minister of Internal Affairs Vahe Ghazaryan during a government meeting.

“Compared to 2019, in 2022, traffic accidents have decreased by 2,419 or 10.2 percent,” said Ghazaryan. According to him, 4,208 accidents were registered in 2022, compared to 4,799 in 2019. The number of casualties decreased by 20 during the same period.

“Despite the fact that the number of registered vehicles in Armenia increased by about 22,825, or roughly twofold, the measures taken have resulted in a decrease in the number of accidents by 295 or 6.4 percent compared to 2021,” the minister stated.

He noted that since 2019, the number of vehicles in Armenia has increased by 160,000 or 23 percent.

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan emphasized the role of the Patrol Service in reducing the number of accidents, pointing out that accidents have particularly decreased during the period when the service was implemented.

This year, five people have died in traffic accidents. The Prime Minister also highlighted the importance of improving roads and the provision of road signs.

It should be noted that during the government meeting, among other issues, a decision was also adopted regarding aligning the road signs of the Armenian Road Safety Department with the EAEU standards, which includes several new signs and new regulations for the department.
