Mikheil Saakashvili Infected with Coronavirus

The former president of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, who has contracted the coronavirus, is experiencing mild symptoms. This was stated by Zurab Chkhaidze, the director of the Vivamed clinic, as reported by Sputnik Georgia.

"The parameters do not correspond to a transfer to the intensive care unit, hence the patient continues treatment in the ward. As for the coronavirus, it is progressing in a mild form," Chkhaidze said.

According to doctors, the former president of Georgia does not require oxygen. The physician also denied reports that Saakashvili had lost consciousness. "Neither the doctor nor the nurse has recorded any episode of loss of consciousness. I am speaking about the reality that exists," emphasized Chkhaidze.

Doctors still do not know specifically who Saakashvili contracted COVID-19 from.

News of Mikheil Saakashvili's coronavirus infection emerged on January 24. Saakashvili's lawyer, Shalva Khachapuridze, reported that the former president had lost consciousness once again.

Earlier, the EU ambassador to Tbilisi, Pavel Gerchik, stated that the EU is closely monitoring the situation surrounding Saakashvili. According to him, Brussels hopes for the protection of the politician's rights by the Georgian leadership.
