Decision Made, But Air Cargo Transport Between Armenia and Turkey Not Yet Operational
The newspaper "Joghovurd" reports that as of January 1, 2023, direct air cargo transports between Turkey and Armenia could potentially be carried out. This was one of the agreements reached between the special representatives of Armenia and Turkey.
On January 6, the spokesperson for the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Vahan Hunanian, also stated, "The Turkish side has informed us today that the ban on direct air cargo transports has been lifted. We would like to remind you that the implementation of direct air cargo transports between Armenia and Turkey was one of the agreements made during the meeting of special representatives on July 1, 2022."
"Joghovurd" contacted the Armenian Ministry of Economy and inquired whether any applications had been submitted to carry out air cargo transports following the lifting of this ban. In response, the Ministry of Economy stated, "Since January 1, 2023, after the lifting of the ban on air cargo transports in both directions between Turkey and Armenia, there have not yet been any air cargo transports from Armenia to Turkey or vice versa. Customs and other procedures still need to be coordinated in order to make these flights possible."
This means that while a decision has been made and a political announcement has been made, the issue has not been practically resolved, and transport is not feasible.
